Currently, for example, the Petrotechnical Open Software Corp. (POSC) manages a real-time drilling data standard based on XML known as WITSML (Wellsite Information Transfer Standard Markup Language). WITSML was originally developed by BP, Statoil, and several large oilfield service companies to enable seamless transfer of wellsite data from the rig to software systems in the office, regardless of brand.
