A cool concept based on Microsoft OLE, transported to AJAX world, except that it is called ALE. Here is the draft spec.
One of the problems with OLE was performance. It will be interesting to see how ALE implementations solve the problem. One nice thing going for it is more granular services available today and a better model for exchanging information (XML).
